According to The Daily Telegraph, the family of convicted paedophile Tony Jones said that he went to meet his friend, convicted child sex offender Paul Bickford, on the day William disappeared in June 2014.

However, when the police questioned Jones about his whereabouts, he reportedly told them that he was collecting scrap metal in the bush.

Bickford allegedly told police he was having lunch with friends in Port Macquarie. He has denied that he is close friends with Jones.

The two men were reportedly driving vehicles with similar descriptions to the ones spotted by William’s mother on the day he vanished.

Both men have denied any involvement in the case.

A close relative told the Tele that Jones had said he was going to see Paul Bickford and collect scrap on the day William went missing.

“Paul Bickford and Tony Jones often went fishing and I can categorically, without any fear call bulls— on the fact Paul Bickford and Tony Jones were simply ‘acquaintances’,” the statement reads.

“They were close friends, no doubt about it.”

A spokesperson for the NSW Police said he was aware of the conversations that Jones had had with his family and the investigation continues.

“As this is an ongoing investigation, it’s not appropriate we discuss who is or who is not a person of interest,” he said.
