The couple blamed โ€œbadly reactingโ€ to alcohol they consumed earlier and paid ยฃ4,100 at Perth Sheriff Court, as well as an additional ยฃ800 to the hotel to cover the cost of damages.

The court heard Mr Fergus used the scissors to cut communication cables at the reception and, after threatening guests and staff with violence, he was eventually caught drunk behind the wheel of his BMW.

The rampage started at 1:45am when a guest was woken by banging on his door and saw Mr Fergus in the hallway, according to Fiscal Deputy Michael Sweeney.

โ€œHe was observed to have a pair of scissors,โ€ Mr Sweeney said.

โ€œMrs Fergus said: โ€˜Iโ€™m going to get a gun and shoot you,โ€™ at [staff member] Miss Titkova.โ€

โ€œOn seeing the scissors, Miss Titkova shouted at the other staff and guests to run.

โ€œThey saw Mr Fergus pick up a sign and smash a glass pane in the door with it.โ€

Mr Fergus then ran through the foyer telling witnesses he would โ€œslitโ€ and โ€œkillโ€ them.

The whole incident allegedly kicked off after a drunk Mr Fergus was roused from his bed by his wife who said sheโ€™d been victim to hostility from hotel staff.

โ€œHe reacted disproportionately by going to reception to confront them,โ€ said his solicitor Ewan Cameron.
