Opposition leader Bill Shorten addresses siege

Opposition leader, Bill Shorten, has released a statement regarding the siege on Martin Place.

Mr Shorten said he has spoken with PM Tony Abbott and given him his โ€œfull support at this timeโ€, reports The Guardian.

โ€œOur thoughts and prayers today are with the innocent people involved in this morningโ€™s incident in Martin Place, Sydney,โ€ said Shorten.

โ€œOur thoughts are also with their families who are seeing this incredibly distressing situation unfold, along with the rest of Australia.

โ€œI have full confidence in the skill and professionalism of our police and security agencies.

โ€œI have spoken to Prime Minister Tony Abbott this morning and offered him the Oppositionโ€™s full support at this time.

โ€œAustralians can be assured that we are one when it comes to keeping Australians safe.โ€
