NSW man fined for not locking his own car

“It’s just ridiculous”

A man who left his car unlocked while he walked ten minutes home to retrieve his driver’s licence has been fined $106 for “not securing his doors.”

Aria, 22, was pulled over by police for a random breath test on Monday and was fined for failing to produce his license.

The Byron Bay local, who is originally from Germany, decided to park his vehicle on the street where he lives and walk home to recover it.

However, when he returned to his car, he was shocked to find a fine for leaving his car unattended with the doors unlocked.

“I laughed,” he told The Sydney Morning Herald. “I actually couldn’t take it serious. It’s a fine, so I’ll have to pay it but it’s just ridiculous.”

“It’s the same street where I live and it was in front of a pretty nice cafe where people were around, so no-one will steal stuff.”

According to the NSW police force website, “It is an offence under the Australian Road Rules to leave your car unlocked.”
