Nine-year-old boy raises $100,000 for sick children

“It means I will help a lot of sick kids and babies. That means everything to me.”

Scott Guerini isn’t your average nine-year-old.

At the age of four, the compassionate little boy decided he wanted help sick children and make a difference in their lives. He started fundraising and walked 25km to the nearest town because it was the hardest thing he could think to do.

A year later he was back at it again, and over the years he has progressed to walking a marathon-length 42.195km annually. He’s battled through bad weather, pain and exhaustion, but never stops short of the finish line.

And now Scott can add another incredible feat to his list of achievements.

It was announced today that Scott had won HTC’s inaugural ‘One Day I Will’ campaign, and that the prize of $25,000 will enable him to reach his goal of raising $100,000 for Perth’s Telethon Kids Institute before he turns ten.

“When I heard I had won I was completely shocked,” Scott said.

“I felt so happy and excited when I realised it meant I will reach my One Day I Will goal of raising $100,000 for Telethon by the time I’m 10. I am so relieved I have made it! It means I will help a lot of sick kids and babies. That means everything to me.”

Scott’s mother Nicole believes his compassion and understanding comes from having a younger brother, Damien, with autism, and that he has always shown kindness and a desire to help others.

Scott’s selfless attitude, incredible achievements and strong will certainly saw him stand out from thousands of entrants in the One Day campaign – a platform that was launched to inspire Australians to pursue their dreams and life goals.

Well done, Scott! You’ve done an amazing job!
