Nick Xenophon calls for free school milk scheme to help dairy farmer crisis

Free milk was phased out in schools in the early 1970's but the senator wants to bring it back.

Nick Xenophon has called for free milk for schools to help invigorate the floundering Australian dairy industry, reports the AAP. “Free milk in the schools is not going to help them one iota.”

Mr Drum suggested improving the transparency of pricing could help the nation’s dairy crisis but conceded it will be tough to convince consumers to pay more for dairy products.
