1. Woolworths recalls pies possibly containing glass.
Supermarket giant Woolworths is urgently recalling its Woolworths Select Chicken and Vegetable Pie 4 pack amid fears they may contain glass.
A spokesperson warned the recall includes any pies sold in stores from April 14 this year and have a best before date ranging from October 9 and 10, 2016.
“Woolworths is recalling this product as if may contain glass and may pose a health risk if consumed,” a statement from Woolworths said.
Customers who have purchased the pies are asked to return them to any Woolworths or Safeway story and will be fully refunded.
Anyone who has already consumed the product is being asked to seek medical advice.
2. Tragic case of public shaming.
A 13-year-old girl has committed suicide just days after a so-called shaming video – in which her father shaved off all her hair as punishment for “messing up” – appeared online.
The girl, from Tacoma, Washington jumped off a highway overpass reports local media.
The video, apparently taken by the girl’s father, shows a short-haired girl in a black t-shirt staring at the camera in what appears to be a garage.
A man’s voice says: “The consequences of getting messed up, man, you lost all that beautiful hair.”
The girl’s black hair is shown scattered on the ground. The man says: “Was it worth it?”
“No,”.
“How many times did I warn you?” he asks.
“A lot,” she replies.
The video was uploaded to YouTube but swiftly taken down. Public health officials warn against blaming any one factor for suicide, which has complex, multiple causes.

3. Beatles memorial tree eaten by beetles.
A pine tree planted in 2004 in memory of former Beatle George Harrison in a Los Angeles park has died after being infested by, well, beetles.
Harrison, who died in 2001, was a keen gardener and a tree was planed in Griffith Park after he died.
But the tree, which had grown to more than 10 feet tall, will be replaced after it became infested with beetles.
A small plaque below the tree read: “In memory of a great humanitarian who touched the world as an artist, a musician and a gardener.”
4. Supermarket giant learns how to make employees happier – stop playing Celine Dion.
The world’s largest retailer, Walmart, has set out to make its 1.3 million employees happier.
After months of strategising methods to create a ‘career culture’ at the supermarket giant exec met wiith 3000 employees this week.
After the bosses announced new cash incentives, a boost in starting salaries and looser dress codes they promised to end the constant loop of Celine Dion and Justin Bieber music blasted into stores.
This was met with “particularly loud ovation” writes Fortune
“Even better, individual stores will have more control over their thermostats rather than having headquarters decide.”
5. Father sues Catholic Education Commission
A Victorian lawyer whose seven-year-old son was hurt during a game of ‘chasey’ at a Catholic primary school is suing for damages.
The Herald Sun reports that the boy’s father, Mr Frank Cetrola, claims school children were told not to run outside the painted lines on a basketball court during ‘bee sting chasey’ but says the rule was not enforced.
The children were not told they would be ‘out’ if they went outside the lines.
He says his son, now 10, damaged his mouth and teeth, and may have to have two teeth surgically removed after crashing into a wall; and that he may need counselling.
He is suing the Catholic Education Commission, which runs the St Finbar’s Parish Primary School in Brighton East.
The injury occurred in 2012.
6. Parents are furious at this school assignment – a sex toy selfie
Parents of students at an American High School want a geography teacher fired after he allegedly sent students home an extra credit assignment of finding sex toys and condoms in their parents’ private drawers, and taking a selfie with what they find.
Speaking to local media one mother revealed the bizarre details of the assignment.
“It was to go into your parents’ private drawers or whatever to seek out sexual toys or condoms, or anything of that nature and to take a selfie with it,” one mother said.
The school has tried to play down the incident with reports claiming it was a joke. But parents are calling for the teacher to be sacked.
“If the kids took it as a joke, then why did one kid take it serious and actually did the extra credit work, and was shown as an example in class?” one mother said.
They say the accused teacher is still teaching at the school.
