Policeman distracts child as officers fight to save her dying dad

1.Policeman distracts child as officers fight to save her dying dad.

The heartbreaking image of police officer distracting a two-year-old girl from the wreckage of the car crash that killed her father has made headlines around the world.

The toddler was travelling in the family SUV with her mother, father and three siblings in Birghton, Colorado, when the car veered off the road and rolled several times.

Police officer Nick Struck arrived at the scene as the little girl was pulled from the wreckage, and sung nursery rhymes to her to keep her distracted while other emergency services personnel fought to free the rest of her family.

Her father died in the crash and her mother and another sibling were airlifted to hospital in a critical condition.

“When you hear that there’s children involved, I’ll tell you what, everyone that responds to that scene, you get that pit in your stomach,” Struck told Colorado’s 9News.

“The first thing we do when we get on scene is we just try to, if we can comfort anybody, of course we’re going to go to the kids.

“So then the role we do is, to keep them safe, what would I want that dad to do if it was my daughter.”

So Struck started singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and pointing out various parts of their surroundings to keep the girl’s eyes off the horror unfolding behind her.

“I know for my daughter, it’s just the attention that someone is there, listening,” he said. “It’s the same for adults, but kids, they take it on a whole other level.

“They’ll gravitate to you, and I remember when I was holding her, she was grabbing the back of my arm, which is something my daughter does. Just stroking to the music, ‘twinkle, twinkle’.”

While they were standing their, singing and cuddling, witness Jessica Matrious – who was driving behind the car when it crashed – took the above picture, which has since been shared hundreds of thousands of times online.

Ambulances later took the girl and her two other siblings to hospital where they are believed to be in a stable condition.

It is believed no one in the car was wearing a seatbelt.

2.Newborn baby in hospital after family dog bit her on the face overnight.

A one-week old baby has been mauled by a dog in Sydney in the early hours of this morning.

The newborn was asleep in her bassinet when the family’s pet dog, an Alaskan Malamute, bit her on the face.

The incident occurred at 3:30am in Campbelltown, and the baby is currently in Sydney Children’s Hospital being treated.

Fairfax Media has reported that the injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Anyone with further information has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page.

3.A children’s birthday party in Sydney’s west has erupted into a vicious brawl.

A birthday part in Wetherill Park went off track over the weekend, as a group of men celebrating different children’s birthday parties at Lollipops Playland and Café engaged in a physical altercation.

Police were told a 48-year-old man approached another man, who was with a different group, to discuss a minor incident on the play equipment involving their children.

A group of men from the other group allegedly assaulted the 48-year-old man and he fell to the ground. Two men from his group, aged 27 and 32, were also assaulted when they came to his aid.

The catalyst for the incident was allegedly a seven-year old having her hair pulled by a man after they squabbled over play equipment use. One father has said his children were ‘traumatised’ by what they observed next.

“They were egging each other on. They were animals, just pigs. It’s unbelievable, I’m speechless. In a kid’s playground, you should be protecting children from ¬violence, not promoting it,” a 33-year-old at the scene told The Daily Telegraph.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au/ Information you provide will be treated in the strictest of confidence.

4.Mother sparks outrage after posting picture of toddler drinking and smoking

Distressing images of a mother proudly serving her young toddler alcohol and helping him ‘get high’ have been circulating overnight and causing outrage amongst parents.

The Argentinian woman posted images of the toddler being forced to drink a bottle of cider alongside the caption, “my cute baby, you’re high, from your mother.”

The backlash caused her to remove the photographs a few hours later, but the damage was done.

While her identity has not yet been revealed, police are looking into the matter further after receiving several complaints that she should be charged with child abuse.

5.Taylor Swift has penned an open letter to Apple after the tech giant announced its new streaming service will not pay artists royalties for the three month start up trial period.

The 25-year-old posted the open letter on her tumblr and tweeted the link to her 59.2 million followers on Twitter.

Titled ‘To Apple, Love Taylor’ the post read:

“I write this to explain why I’ll be holding back my album, 1989, from the new streaming service, Apple Music. I feel this deserves an explanation because Apple has been and will continue to be one of my best partners in selling music and creating ways for me to connect with my fans.

“I’m sure you are aware that Apple Music will be offering a free 3 month trial to anyone who signs up for the service. I’m not sure you know that Apple Music will not be paying writers, producers, or artists for those three months. I find it to be shocking, disappointing, and completely unlike this historically progressive and generous company.

“This is not about me. Thankfully I am on my fifth album and can support myself, my band, crew, and entire management team by playing live shows. This is about the new artist or band that has just released their first single and will not be paid for its success. This is about the young songwriter who just got his or her first cut and thought that the royalties from that would get them out of debt. This is about the producer who works tirelessly to innovate and create, just like the innovators and creators at Apple are pioneering in their field…but will not get paid for a quarter of a year’s worth of plays on his or her songs.”

The Blank Space singer has previously criticised and taken her music off Spotify, which is currently one of the biggest music streaming services in the world.

Swift ended the open letter to Apple with the sentence, “We don’t ask you for free iPhones. Please don’t ask us to provide you with our music for no compensation.”

Don’t mess with Taylor.
