Homer and Marge to “legally separate”

Apparently Lena Dunham is to blame.

1. ARE Homer and Marge really getting a divorce?!

That’s what one of the creators of The Simpsons has told Hollywood’s Variety magazine.

The Simpsons is one of the longest-running and most successful TV cartoons of time. It’s coming up for a 27th season, and the 28th may well be the last.

In the Variety interview, executive producer Al Jean, said Homer and Marge would “legally separate” in the upcoming season, after Homer falls for a character voiced by Girls creator Lena Dunham.

The show’s creators have also claimed in recent days that Bart will be killed off – and not a moment too soon. (Kidding! Just kidding.)

2. YOU get shot through the heart for drug trafficking but pay somebody to kill your hard-working husband in Bali, and you might well walk free in less than 12 years.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Balinese woman Noor Ellis has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for ordering the murder of Australian businessman Robert Ellis.

Noor was married to Robert for 25 years and had two sons with him. The court heard that she hired two hit-men to slice his throat in their villa. His body was found dumped in a ditch.

But never mind, according to Bali courts, that’s worth 12 years for Ms Noor and 12 each for the men who cut Robert’s throat and left him to die in a rice paddy. According to the Herald’s report, the judge was pleased to see that Ms Noor was “polite in court”.

Robert’s son, Peter Ellis, was less impressed, saying the family was “extremely disappointed” by the outcome of the trial.

“We would have expected a sentence of at least 20 years for the brutal, premeditated murder of our father,” he said.

3. SHE is one of the most powerful and admired women in the world but Michelle Obama still feels the sting of racism.

In a speech to high school graduates in her home town of Chicago this week, the First Lady said she was particularly hurt by a cartoon in The New Yorker in which she was shown wearing a huge Afro and carrying a gun.

The New York Times reports America’s first African-American First Lady – a role she did not covet and does not always enjoy – decided to see the cartoon as satire, and mostly decided to turn the other cheek.

That said, Ms Obama told the graduates that other people’s perceptions of her “used to really get to me” adding that she had “a lot of sleepless nights” over how people saw her, as either “too soft, too loud, too angry, too much of a Mom, not enough of a career woman.”

She was amazed when a fist-bump with her husband was interpreted as some of kind of “terrorist fist jab”.

As the Obamas head toward the end of an eight-year run in the White House, Michelle urged girls in the audience not to allow themselves to be defined by others, saying that while her own instinct was sometimes to run, she would prefer them to always look forward, “to run to, and not away from the noise.”

5. SERVICE dogs are trained to save their owners from all kinds of trouble that’s what Figo has done.

Good old Figo saw his owner – who is blind – about to walk into the path of a bus and threw himself under the wheels instead.

He suffered a broken leg but is on the mend, and the toast of the town.

Local papers in the town of Brewster report that Figo the golden retriever is owned by Audrey Stone, who is blind.

The dog suggested she stop before the school mini-bus came along but she apparently misunderstood, so Figo had to step out in front of her.

Police photos show fur stuck to the front driver’s side wheel. Dog’s doing fine.
