JOHN Travolta has no interest in seeing a new film that claims he is essentially being held captive by the Church of Scientology.
In an interview with the Tampa Bay Times Travolta said the church had helped him through the darkest times, including the death of his son, Jett.
The new film, Going Clear, suggests that Travolta, who stormed into Australian hearts with his clumsy courting of Olivia Newton John in Grease, is being blackmailed by the church.
It says Travolta and other high profile stars, including Tom Cruise, were tricked into confessing their darkest secrets during confidential counselling sessions. The documentary style film says the details were recorded and information used to blackmail members into staying with the church.
Yet Travolta says: “I’ve been so happy with my (Scientology) experience in the last 40 years. I’ve been brought through storms that were insurmountable, and (Scientology has) been so beautiful for me, that I can’t even imagine attacking it.”
On coping with the death of his son, Travolta says: “Oh, my god, I wouldn’t have made it” (without the church’s assistance). “Honestly.”
Despite his many gifts to the world – including that memorable strut in a white suit in Saturday Night Fever – Travolta, who is also a Qantas ambassador, is subjected to pretty much relentless bullying in the US over his sexuality and religion.
WHAT would you prefer? Living on kale and looking like a skeleton in your undies? Or having a bountiful cup size, and eating your cupcakes, too?
For many, the answer is obvious, and yet some fashion houses keep insisting that skinny is sexy.
Not plus-size brand, Lane Bryant, which has launched a new campaign showing curvy girls in all their glory.
The ad promotes the #imnoangel tag, which is a direct hit on bony Victoria’s Secret angels.
The models have full cups and round hips, and say things like: “You want to meet my girls?” and “I’m no angel – but I’m all kinds of sexy.”
“How boring would it be if we were all the same?” they say, adding: “I mean, honey, have you seen all this? Hot!”
Yes, hot.
PRINCE Andrew sex allegations struck from record.
Buckingham Palace has long denied the allegation and now a court has ruled that claims that a 17-year-old was forced to have sex with Prince Andrew be removed from court records.
The Guardian reports that US judge Kenneth Marra ordered the allegations about Andrew be struck from the record.
We’ve learnt a woman whose story is at the centre of the case has also been prevented from joining a lawsuit against the Prince’s one-time friend, Jeffrey Epstein, who is a convicted sex offender.
“These lurid details are unnecessary,” the judge wrote, and therefore “these unnecessary details shall be stricken.”
Prince Andrew denies any wrongdoing.
HE was small, confused, afraid and alone but Luke Shambrook, who is only 11 years old, is recovering in hospital.
Luke, who has autism, had been lost in the Australian bush since Good Friday.
By Tuesday, hopes were fading but then, amazingly, there he was, looking up at the search helicopter hovering above.
Victoria police yesterday released footage of the dramatic moment when Luke was spotted in the scrub around Lake Eildon.
He wasn’t able to communicate with the searchers, who said: “He was offered water, and drank water. He was offered pieces of a roll, and he ate that, and every time he looked at the roll, he was offered more of the roll and he continued to eat.”
The rescuers put a Victoria Police beanie on his little head, and stretchered him into the arms of his parents, Tim and Rachael.
In hand-written notes, they have thanked rescuers – many of whom are volunteers – and the public for continuing to search, even as hope was fading.
QUEENSLAND police have accidentally released a boa constrictor into the wild, after finding it wrapped around a light pole on the Gold Coast.
The Courier-Mail reports that police thought the snake was a native, harmless diamond python.
The South American snake can certainly kill. A pet shop owner in Canada is currently facing charges after a snake he kept in his apartment killed two little boys who were sleeping over.
More likely is that the snake on the loose in Queensland will kill somebody’s pet or wildlife. Police say it’s ‘unlikely’ to breed with local snakes, a scenario too Hollywood to even contemplate.
A MAN who shot and killed himself at a Las Vegas casino on Easter Monday left a note blaming the casino for taking away his right to a lifetime of free meals at the buffet.
John Noble, 53, won free buffet meals for life during a special casino promotion in 2010 but he was banned from the M casino in 2013 after harassing female staff.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal said yesterday that it had received a final, angry note from Noble, who set fire to his car in the casino car park before shooting himself in the head.
The note ran to 270 pages and included a two-hour DVD of Noble talking about his anger at the casino and its employees, some of whom had complained that he had begun stalking and harassing them after hours. The casino buffet remained closed yesterday.
LOS ANGELES is one of the world’s worst airports, at least according to travel website, Jalopnik.
In what has become an annual event, the website today lists its Top Ten Garbage Airport and, as anyone who has ever attempted to fly from Australia to the US can probably attest, LAX is right up there.
The report says LAX is “one of the most chronically congested” airports in the world, “with an incredibly rude staff.”
Many agree, saying the food is terrible, the air strangely warm, the seats uncomfortable and the queues unbearable.
At least you now have options: passengers to the US has long been able to clear customs at Honolulu, but also now, Dallas.
A 100-YEAR-OLD man is suspecting of murdering his 88-year-old wife before taking his own life.
Police in New Jersey – who use Twitter to broadcast crimes to the public – said the couple, Michael and Rosalia Juskin, were found inside their home on Easter Monday.
“Axe used on Mrs Juskin,” the police tweet said, “Knife on Mr Juskin.”
Neighbours said Mr Juskin had long been unstable, and that their daughter had tried to convince her mother to move out, to no avail.
