The police officer fatally stabbed in today’s London terror attacks was surrounded by paramedics, police officer, and doctors, as well as Foreign minister Tobias Ellwood who attempted to resuscitate him.
Ellwood, a former soldier, was pictured kneeling over the policeman’s body while giving the officer mouth-to-mouth and stemmed blood gushing from multiple stab wounds in an attempt to save his life.
Pictured with a bloodied face and hands, the minister appeared to be consoled by officers after confirmation the officer died at the scene.
Sadly, this isn’t Ellwood’s first experience with terrorism.
The minister lost his brother Jonathan in the 2002 Bali bombings, which claimed 202 lives, including 88 Australians, and injured a further 209.
Speaking just hours after the attack, the former Captain in the Royal Green Jackets described it as a “huge tragedy”.
“I am a witness, I was the last one on the scene before he died so I am not allowed to say anything.
“It is now murder, I was on the scene and as soon as I realised what was going on I headed towards it,” he said.
“It is a huge tragedy, it really is.
“I tried to stem the flow of blood and give mouth to mouth while waiting for the medics to arrive but I think he had lost too much blood.
“He had multiple wounds, under the arm and in the back.
“As I understand it the attacker has also died.
“It’s very sad.”
Police have now confirmed that five people, including the attacker, died and at least 40 have been injured in what is being treated as a terrorist act.
