The 21-month-old boy was reportedly rushed to Wollongong hospital in January after discovering his mother’s stash of ice left by her bed and consuming it, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Hospital staff suspected he had been poisoned and tested him for drugs, where they found he had eaten the drug ice.

Police allege the child was left unattended in his 27-year-old mother’s room in their Koonawarra home and was later found in a fit of severe seizures after ingesting the toxic substances.

After a reported tip off from doctors, a later raid of the home allegedly uncovered methylamphetamine, cannabis, cathinone, buprenorphine and other drug taking equipment.

On Tuesday the South-Coast woman was charged with abandon and expose child under seven, cause danger of death and six counts of possess a prohibited drug and a notice to appear in court today, reports The Daily Telegraph.

The boy has been removed from his mother’s care by the NSW Department of Family and Community Services.
