Last August, young British backpacker Mia Ayliffe-Chung was senselessly stabbed to death in the hostel she was staying at just outside Townsville.
It’s alleged 19-year-old Frenchman Smail Ayad murdered Mia and fellow Brit Tom Jackson who tried to come to her rescue during the attack.
Police have said the 20-year-old did not die as a result of terrorism but the Trump administration included Mia’s death on a list of 78 alleged “terror” attacks they say were ‘underreported’.
The list described 78 attacks that were “executed or inspired by” Islamic State since September 2014. The Sydney Lindt Cafe siege and the shooting murder of police worker Curtis Cheng in Parramatta were also included.
But Mia’s mother Rosie Ayliffe is furious Mia’s death is included in the list. She’s already written impassioned blog posts about the “nonsense” attempts to link Mia’s murder to Islam.
Now she’s written an open letter to Trump, stating Mia’s death must not be used for “insane persecution” of innocent people.
Rosie tells the POTUS: “any fool can shout Allahu Akbar as they commit a crime.”
