A mother who lives in a secure, gated apartment in California faces up to six months in prison for allowing her four year old son to play unsupervised, less than 50 metres from her front door.
Fox reports that the Mum, Sonya Hendren, let her little boy, Tomahawk, play at the playground within the estate.
Some neighbours saw him, and told him to go home, but when he refused, they called Child Services.
‘While she was initially arrested for child endangerment and neglect, the charges have been reduced to misdemeanors and she has been offered a reduced sentence of 30 days in jail and one year of probation,’ the report says.
‘However, she rejected the plea deal in order to fight the charges and now faces a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a three-year probation.’
The neighbours told Fox that Tomahawk was ‘playing outside, unattended for about 15 to 20 minutes’ and they worried that he might be abducted.
