‘Most demanding first birthday invite’ goes viral

An emailed birthday invite has been shared all over the internet as a couple instruct invitees what to buy their precious boy on his first birthday.

When it comes to the act of giving, they say it’s the thought that counts.

But clearly not to these parents.

An emailed birthday invite is doing the rounds on the internet after it was posted on Reddit and labelled the “Most demanding 1st birthday invite ever.”

The invite opens with an explanation: “With [name redacted]’s birthday coming up, we thought we’d ask for 4 items that he will really get a lot of use out of in the upcoming months.”

These four items are a play tunnel, play tent, water table, and a ‘Fill in the Missing Cheerios’ book.

“If you are unable to get these items, please let us know so that we can buy them right away for him,” write this little boy’s parents.

They then proceed to explain “a few other important items.”

“If you choose to get [name redacted] something that isn’t on this list, anytime regardless of birthdays or holidays, please be sure to always include a receipt going forward.

“When we return items without receipts, we only get about 50% of the value so it is like throwing away money if you don’t include a receipt with the gifts.”

It looks like a few attendees can avoid obeying these orders by following another instruction from the parents, who insist they are only asking grandparents and direct aunts and uncles for gifts.

And for those who fit the bill, well, there’s one saying that does still apply; you can choose your friends but you can’t choose your family.
