Brekky Wrap: What we’re talking about today

A PROMINENT immigration lawyer, David Bitel, has been committed to stand trial for the rape and sexual assault of six asylum seekers reports the Sydney Morning Herald.

Mr Bitel, 63, strongly rejects the charges saying the men have colluded against him.

The offences are said to have taken place in Mr Bitel’s Sydney office, and to involve asylum seekers from Nepal, Pakistan, India and Bangladesh, who say that Mr Bitel fondled their genitals, amongst other offences, when they went to him to get advice on their claims to stay in Australia.

MURDERED bride-to-be Stephanie Scott had planned a wedding so warm and lovely that guests would have enjoyed it as much as she would have.

That’s the kind of girl Stephanie was, according to her dad, Robert, in an interview with today’s The Daily Telegraph.

Mr Scott said Stephanie, 26, who is believed to have been murdered on Easter Sunday, had the kind of gentle spirit that lifted all around her. Instead of attending her wedding, the family is now planning Stephanie’s funeral.

In the meantime, it is hoped that an autopsy, conducted yesterday, will reveal the cause of death. A high school cleaner and gamer Vincent Stanford, whose interests apparently extended to an appreciation of neo-Nazi propaganda, is charged with Stephanie’s murder.

GOD bless Rebel Wilson, who strutted onto the MTV awards stage last night dressed as an angel.

A Victoria’s Secret angel.

Rebel had the giant, feathered wings. She had the hot pants and the bra. What she didn’t have was the skeletal body. And on her butt, instead of the word PINK she had THINK.

In an after-awards press conference, Rebel said: “Girls will look at Victoria’s Secret models and think they have to model themselves after that, but I really don’t think that’s the best,” she said.

“Even though they’re called models, they’re not the best people to model themselves after. I’d like to encourage other girls to think that way, which is why I put that on my butt. Because it’s really about what’s up here [pointing to her head] and not what’s here [then pointing to her butt].”

ALSO shaming the body-bullies: pop star Pink, who turned up to support a cancer charity – that’s right, a cancer charity – only to find herself being lashed online for having put on weight.

“I felt very pretty,” said Pink, afterwards. “My healthy, voluptuous, crazy strong body is having some much deserved time off. Thank you for your concern.”

DON’T watch the leaked episodes of Game of Thrones.

That was the message from a dismayed cable giant HBO yesterday, and it was promptly ignored, after more than a million people accessed the first of the leaked episodes, even as HBO was scrambling to somehow halt the damage.

Game of Thrones is the most watched HBO series of all time and one of the most popular shows on earth. Sadly, given how much it takes to make each episode, it’s also amongst the most pirated – which is to say, stolen – shows in history.

MICHELLE Obama pushed the young Barack away when he first asked for a date, according to a new book about America’s First Lady.

Michelle Obama: A Life by Washington Post reporter Peter Selvin says that Michelle (born Michelle Robinson) found Barack intriguing “in every way you can imagine. He was funny, self-deprecating. He could laugh himself.”

Right off that bat, she thought: “We can be friends.” He pressed for more. She pushed him away. Finally, she said: “Okay, we’ll go on one date. But we won’t call it a date. We will spend the day together.” But the end of it, she was sold.

AS if being short weren’t tough enough, a new report says those lacking in stature are more likely to develop heart disease.

The New York Times report on the study which says a person who is five feet tall has a 30 percent greater chance of developing heart disease than someone who is 5 feet 6.

The study was done after doctors observed that 97 men and three women admitted to Massachusetts General Hospital suffering a heart attack before age 40 were two inches shorter on average than the general population.

What can you do about it? Nothing. Except quit smoking, which you should have done years ago, anyway.

MOTHER of the year award goes to the jackass parent who dangled her two-year-old son over a cheetah enclosure in Ohio – and then let him fall in.

Zoo officials say both parents jumped in to save the child, who might otherwise have been torn to pieces. The zoo wants police to lay charges. The cheetahs doubtless feel cheated, too.
