Model with DS becomes face of beauty campaign

Katie Meade has become the first model with Down Syndrome to front a beauty campaign. And she looks incredible!

Katie Meade, 32, is breaking down stereotypes of those with Down syndrome by revealing she’s the face of haircare brand Beauty & Pin-ups.

Katie, who was also born with a heart defect and lives in Iowa, US, will now appear on the packaging of a hair mask product by the brand. And she looks stunning!

She wears a t-shirt with a slogan ‘fearless’ and we think that word defines her in every way.

Deciding Katie would be the face of the product was simple – she was the ideal candidate. The company already knew of Katie as she was an ambassador for an organisation Beauty & Pin-ups work with, called Best Buddies International. They help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities meet people and find employment opportunities – which Katie was an ambassador of.

Kenny Kahn, CEO of Beauty & Pin-Ups, told Today: “It was important to us to build a brand that mattered, that stood for something. We kind of looked at each other and all said, Katie is the most fearless person we know.”

“She represents not just hope; she represents reality. She is just an incredible person.” he said.

Katie said: “They have given me opportunities to show the world that people with disabilities like beauty and fashion, and like to look good like everyone else.”
