Missing toddler’s parents charged with murder

No one reported the 22-month-old missing until 10 years later.

Baden Bond vanished 10 years ago.

He was last seen in his Woodridge home, south of Brisbane, in March 2007 and his large extended family moved to NSW later that year.

But no one reported Baden missing until 2016.

Detective Inspector Damien Hansen said no medical or educational records exist for the child in the last 10 years, and his parents have given conflicting versions of events regarding his whereabouts.

Police have been unable to find evidence proving these claims, including that he was living with family interstate or in the care of child services.

Last year, bones were found in the backyard of the family’s former home in Woodridge, but Det. Insp Hansen stated it would probably be a few more months until the lab can confirm if they are human bones or not.

His parents Dina Colleen Bond, 43, and Shane Arthur Simpson, 49, were charged last night with the murder of 22-month-old Baden Bond who police allege was killed sometime between March 26 and May 17 in Woodridge.

The pair appeared briefly at Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning and was denied bail due to the seriousness of the charge.

Their case has been adjourned to April 10.
