Missing Australian man found in UK homeless shelter 16 years later

His family are raising funds to fly him home

He has been missing for 16 years, but remarkably, Jason Ronald Douglas, now 36, has been found living in a homeless shelter in Walsall.

Jason was living with his uncle Tim Andrews in the UK, but when Tim died suddenly he “fell apart.”

He lost contact with his family in 2000 and spent many years believing that they had given up on him.

The reality is that his family has spent many years desperately trying to find him. Jason’s cousin, Lisa Andrews told the Mirror that his mother Kim ““had spent so many years upset”

“The worst was watching his sister Sally and his mum at Christmas and on his birthday – they were just in absolute bits.”

The family have been able to trace Jason using a Facebook page that shared his picture.

Lisa was told that Jason could be in the West Midlands so the family contacted as many homeless shelters as they could in the area.

Then they were told the amazing news that someone had a contact number for him and he was actually living in Walsall.

Sally, his only sibling, has been on the phone to Jason for hours since finally tracking him down.

Now that he has been found, Jason’s family plan to fly him home to Brisbane. They are raising money via go fund me to pay for a replacement birth certificate and passport as well as Jason’s air fare.

Lisa told the Mirror that it is Jason’s birthday next month. “If we can get him home by March 12, that would be absolutely amazing.”
