Heart-warming photos have emerged of former NSW Premier Mike Baird crying at the sight of his daughter Laura on her wedding day.
Woonona photographer James Day captured the first time Baird saw his daughter in a wedding dress moments before walking her down the aisle at St Matthew’s Anglican Church in Manlyn Saturday.
“Mike (Laura’s dad and our ex-premier of NSW) was about to see his daughter after she had put her wedding dress on,” Day wrote on his Facebook page.
“I asked him if he could close his eyes and face the other way as I said to him, ‘When you turn around you’ll see your daughter dressed as a bride’.”
“Instantly Mike started tearing up and I was fortunate to witness this incredible moment.
“Sometimes we just need to take a moment and realise how incredible life is as it unfolds in front of us.”
Baird announced his retirement from politics in January this year, citing wanting to spend more time with his family as the reason for his departure and thanking them for “bearing the enormous cost that has come with this job”.
Earlier that month, he announced his eldest daughter’s engagement.
“It feels as if only yesterday I was cradling Laura in my arms. A reminder for all that time as a parent just goes too quickly, and every day is one to savour,” he wrote at the time.
And of the latest addition to the family? Apparently the “exhaustive background checks [Baird] requested from the Police Minister came back just fine…”
