After a tumultuous year, Mick Fanning has suffered yet another devastating loss.
Surfer Magazine reported today that Fanning’s elder brother, Peter, died in his sleep early this morning from unknown causes.
Mick also lost another brother, Sean, in 1998 in a car accident.
Despite Peter’s death, Mick, 34, persevered to compete in his fourth world title in Hawaii today, where he competed against local champion Jamie O’Brien.
Whilst competing, Mick scored an 8.47 on a wave, the highest of the heat, which advanced him to the next round.
Mick is yet to comment on the news.
