The 44-year-old presenter left breakfast television in August last year to anchor the news bulletin on 7Two and a national 4pm news program.
But just six months after it was launched, the network has decided to cancel the 7pm bulletin so the news presenter can focus on other assignments.
A Seven spokesperson told TV Tonight the later news bulletin affected the stories Melissa could cover.
“She’s doing more and more overseas and is a senior correspondent working hard. So we’ve closed that bulletin down and all those resources are back in the newsroom. She has 4pm and other newsreading duties and senior correspondent stuff.
“Her role has been increasing on the road and that 7pm bulletin made it very hard.”
