A Melbourne mother whose car was struck by a teenager driving a stolen vehicle has died in hospital.
Amanda Matheson, 47, was involved in a head-on collision when a teenager who was driving on the wrong side of the road in a stolen BMW collided with her.
The mother-of-two was rushed to hospital on Monday morning but tragically succumbed to her injuries late yesterday, reports The Herald Sun.
Amanda leaves behind two teenaged daughters, aged 13 and 15.
The mother-of-two’s sister-in-law has spoken out about her death, saying, “Everybody’s just reeling. Her friends and family are shattered.”
“She lived for her girls, it was always about the girls. To those who knew her and loved her she was the best friend anyone could have. She put everyone else first before herself. She was a very supportive daughter.”
“They don’t know how they are going to cope without her.”
“To have these darling little girls cuddling and crying and saying is this really happening to their mum…it’s just devastating.”
It is understood that Amanda’s organs have been donated and she has already saved five lives.
The driver of the stolen BMW, allegedly a 15-year-old boy from Patterson Lakes, was arrested after being found at a fast food restaurant hours later.
The teenager has been charged with reckless conduct placing a person in danger of death, aggravated burglary, car theft and traffic matters.
