McDonald’s dubs Trump a ‘disgusting excuse of a president’ on Twitter

The fast-food chain says their Twitter account was compromised ahead of the uncharacteristic attack.

McDonald’s has revealed that one of its Twitter accounts was compromised on Thursday after the fast-food chain’s corporate arm sent out an anti-Trump message.

Sent directly to POTUS, the tweet read: “@realDonaldTrump You are actually a disgusting excuse of a President and we would love to have @BarackObama back, also you have tiny hands.”

The post, which was ‘pinned’ by the perpetrator – meaning it was featured at the top of the brand’s Twitter page, was taken down 25 minutes later.

Understandably, the restaurant-giant were quick to explain the missive.

“Twitter notified us that our account was compromised. We deleted the tweet, secured our account and are now investigating this,” the company wrote on Twitter.

Interestingly, the account was seen to post on-brand messaging before and swiftly after the blunder. Ergo, it’s unclear whether the account was hacked or if the company’s social media manager simply saw a golden opportunity and ran with it.

Either way, the damage was already done…

The post was retweeted over 600 times during its lifespan and has provoked a wide range of reactions, with some users adopting the chain’s iconic slogan, “I’m Lovin’ It,” as a hashtag.

“I got @McDonalds for lunch today in honor of their, mistake or no mistake, tweet to puppet baby hands this morning. #ImLovingIt,” one user wrote.

A second added: “@McDonaldsCorp never tasted so good! #imlovingit.”

Even comedian Seth Meyers was seen to comment on the epic gaffe – referring to the company’s mascot Ronald McDonald, he tweeted, “Clown on clown crime #McDonalds.”

Mr Trump, who appeared in a McDonald’s commercial in 2002 alongside Grimace in Trump Tower, is yet to make a statement.
