New petition demands Gerry and Kate McCann take a lie detector test

The petition comes a month before the 10th anniversary of Madeleine’s disappearance.

A petition has sprung up on Care2 Petitions demanding Kate and Gerry McCann to take a lie detector test about their daughter Madeleine’s disappearance.

Almost 27,000 people have signed the petition as the family steels themselves for the 10th anniversary.

“We feel that the McCann’s should take this opportunity which is a positive step to successfully bring an end to the speculation that they were involved in their daughters disappearance to the extent of foul play by them or an accident which they deliberately covered up,” the petition reads.

Organisers of the petition claim the petition needs 100,000 signatures so it can be debated at Parliament, but, as it’s not listed on the official parliamentary website, there is no chance it will be discussed by MPs.

A source close to the family told The Sun the petition was “more utter rubbish”.

“Kate and Gerry will not do a lie detector test because they’ve got nothing to lie about.

“It’s just nonsense to suggest they have.”

A quick search on various petition websites prove this is far from an uncommon theme.

Change.org has a petition with over 130,000 signatures calling for the McCanns to be charged with neglect, as well as those demanding McCanns fund their own legal battles, and ‘Justice for Madeleine’.

Care2 has similarly grim petitions directed solely at the parents.

Earlier this month, British police were granted GBP 85,000 ($136,935) to extend their search for Madeleine by an extra six months – which takes the total amount over the last 10 years to GBP 11.1 million ($17.9 million).
