In an attempt to stop his abuse, she crushed up 75 temazepam tablets and mixed them with his dinner – a plate of meatballs, SMH reports.
She then attempted to poison him with a syringe full of weedkiller and brake fluid.
However, he woke up while the needle was still in his arm.
Together with her 19-year-old daughter – a co-accused in the case – Mrs De Bono fled the house to a relatives address before confessing to police.
Police have since searched the home where they found a phone on which his daughter had recorded several threats her father had made to her mother.
Mr De Bono has been served with a Family Violence Safety Notice, prohibiting him from committing acts of violence on his daughter.
Mr De Bono did not suffer any lasting damage and Mrs De Bono was released on bail and will reappear in court later this year.
