A man who allegedly spat in a four-month old baby’s face while it was being pushed in a pram in inner Sydney has been charged.
The alleged incident happened on Saturday afternoon in Crown St, Surry Hills.
According to police, the man – who was not known to the family – approached the pram, leaned in and spat on the face of the baby.
He then fled, with the baby’s grandfather chasing after him. The man collided with a car before getting up again and running off.
After investigating the case, the police arrested a 37-year-old man yesterday afternoon at his home in Redfern.
He was taken to Redfern station and charged with common assault and pedestrian move into driver’s path, plus another charge of common assault for a domestic violence matter unrelated to the event.
The man was refused bail and is expected to appear in Central Local Court later today.
