A woman who is almost four months pregnant was forced to run for her life after being threatened by a tomahawk-wielding man in the Western Australian suburb of Withers earlier this week.
Maddy and her friend were driving on Westwood Road on Wednesday night when they stopped their car to help a man, who they thought was in trouble.
Upon approaching the man’s vehicle, which police later established had been stolen during a burglary in Leederville earlier that day, the pregnant woman was forced to quickly turn on her heels and head back to the car; upon seeing the woman, the man had taken to the car he had been driving with the tomahawk.
“We so scared, like we had to hide behind bins and we didn’t know what to do, we actually went to another lady’s house to help but she was too shocked to even open the door,” Maddy tells Yahoo! 7 News.
According to Yahoo! 7 News, as Maddy and her friend, with Maddy’s two-year-old son in the backseat, drove away, the man began chasing them in his car, allegedly ramming them repeatedly.
The women turned down another street, parking in someone’s driveway for refuge, but the man reportedly continued with his “absolutely terrifying” rampage.
Three elderly men living nearby intervened, taking on the man, and police arrived shortly thereafter.
A 72-year-old man is believed to have sustained a broken shoulder while trying to approach the man in question.
“The offender was armed at the time and threatening to kill,” says Detective Sergeant Robert Martin.
“Certainly acting extremely erratically and it was behaving in a manner that would make you believe that he had taken some sort of drug.”
