The last thing you’d expect to happen to your five-day-old baby is to be assaulted in a supermarket.
New mum Amy Duckers, who lives in Wythenshawe in the UK, was “shocked” beyond belief when a man approached, and then assaulted, her newborn daughter, Elsie Rose.
Duckers says that the incident occurred when she was introducing Elsie to a neighbour in her local Tesco supermarket.
“We all heard the punch land on my little baby,” she recalled to the Manchester Evening News.
“He could easily have killed her.”
Not only that, but Duckers’ 7-year-old daughter, Libby, also witnessed the shocking assault.
Duckers explains that the offender – who is believed to be a 63-year-old man and has since been arrested “on suspicion of assault”, according to a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson – then apologised, claiming that he thought young Elsie “was a doll”.
Elsie was admitted to hospital and discharged the next day with, fortunately, no serious injuries.
