The boy was then grabbed by the throat, thrown to the ground and punched in the face several times.
The man then attempted to strangle the boy with his hands. The boy managed to free himself from the man and run away.
He was not seriously injured during the incident.
The man is described as Asian in appearance, aged between 30 to 40, approximately 172 centimetres tall, short black hair with a proportionate build and last seen wearing a short sleeve purple shirt.
Police are appealing for assistance to identify this man fitting the description.
