A man who dangled a baby out of the 15th floor of an apartment for Facebook likes has been sentenced to two years in jail.
In photographs shared on Facebook, the young boy is seen hanging out of the sickeningly high window held only by the scruff of his t-shirt.
“1000 likes or I drop him,” the man, a relative of the boy, captioned the images.
The man, holding the boy with his left hand while taking a photo with his right, held the boy some 45 metres above the ground while he filmed, The Sun reports.
The stunt, which happened in the Algerian capital of Algiers, quickly caused a flurry of outrage and alarm.
Local news service Al Arabiya said the child was “in a state of fear and bewilderment”.
People who saw the video quickly contacted the police in disgust and the man was arrested and charged with child abuse.
Prosecutors said he had tormented the boy purely to gain a high number of views and likes on social media.
Media activist Dalila Belkheir told the local press the man was “not a father but a terrorist.”
The baby’s father begged the court to forgive the man, claiming he had just playing a game.
However, he was found guilty and sentenced to two years imprisonment.
