A man has been charged over a sexual assault that took place over 20 years ago.
In 1990, a man broke into a terrace house in Chippendale, Sydney and confronted a 83-year-old woman as she slept.
The police allege that the man dragged the woman from her bed and threatened her with a knife before sexually assaulting her.
Police were called to the scene after the man had fled. A crime scene was established and a number of items were seized for forensic analysis.
In November 2015, a forensic match was made and following inquiries, a 50-year-old man was arrested in Walgett on Wednesday and charged with sexual assault.
Sadly, the victim passed away in 1994 of an unrelated illness.
