Man charged after leading police on a five-hour car chase

He has been refused bail

Police have charged a man following a five-hour chase from the NSW Central Coast to Sydney’s south-west. He is accused of having a toddler on board during the chase.

The man, who was wanted on several outstanding warrants including firearms and weapons offences, was spotted at around 11am on Golf Links Drive in Watanobbi.

The 40-year-old suspect then allegedly fled the scene in a truck.

Police then began a pursuit however, when they realised there was a child in the flat-bed truck they pulled back on the chase as the PolAir helicopter tracked the vehicle.

The truck allegedly ran out of petrol and came to a halt on Colechin St in Yagoona, where the suspect was arrested by police.

Paramedics were called to check on the little boy’s welfare and he was taken to Bankstown Hospital as a precaution.

The suspect has been charged with two outstanding warrants for assault and firearm offences, three counts of using an offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, police pursuit, using an unregistered vehicle, driving a vehicle with a suspended licence, two counts of not giving particulars to other driver, two counts of destroying or damaging property, and driving with a child not restrained.

The man will appear to Bankstown Local Court today. He has been refused bail.
