Man attacked by shark off New South Wales north coast

A man has been left with serious injuries after being bitten by a shark on New South Wales' north coast.

A man has been rushed to hospital with severe injuries to his arms, legs and hands after being bitten by a shark off the coast of Evans Head.

The man, believed to be in his 40s, was attacked whilst surfing at around 6.00am this morning, Ballina police have confirmed.

Two local surfers came to his aid and got him back to shore safely.

From there, ambulances and emergency services were called to the scene, where they were able to transport the man to the local hospital, Lismore Base Hospital.

Police have confirmed the man’s injuries are “serious” but he is in a “stable condition”.

Evans Head is just 40km away from Ballina, where a fatal shark attack was recorded earlier this year in February.

Another attack was observed in Lennox Head, north of Ballina, where a surfer was knocked off his board. Just days earlier, a body boarded was mauled by a Great White.

Evans Head beach is expected to face closure.
