Malcolm Turnbull and Mel Gibson team up to open NIDA arts school

Mad Max and our PM shone a light on the arts this week when they opened up a new graduate arts school.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has joined forces with the original Mad Max – Mel Gibson – to open a new graduate arts program in Sydney.

The Herald reports that Mr Turnbull seemed thrilled to be alongside Mel on the red carpet, at the opening of NIDA’s graduate school.

“Telling stories, describing ourselves, imagining ourselves, dreaming about the selves we’d like to be … that is as human as eating and drinking,” said Malcolm.

Mel Gibson studied at NIDA, as did just about every other successful Australian actor, including Cate Blanchett and Sam Worthington.

Mel now lives in Hollywood but is filming a World War II drama, Hacksaw Ridge, in Sydney.

The graduate school will over courses in writing and directing.
