Madeline Stuart, Australia’s famous model with Down syndrome, caught up with Woman’s Day as she celebrates two years with her boyfriend.
After they met at the Special Olympics in 2011, Robbie Streeting had a secret crush on Madeline for three years.
After finally getting Madeline to agree to a date, the pair enjoyed their first date at the Goldcoast’s Dreamworld on Valentine’s Day two years ago. It was fun filled day where they held hands and laughed as they enjoyed each other’s company.
This Valentine’s Day the happy couple went back to where it all began to celebrate their second anniversary.
“It’s a special place for us with wonderful memories of laughing and giggling – so I decided to surprise Maddy with a visit for our anniversary!” beams Robbie, 20, who has an intellectual disability.
“We were just friends until I finally said yes to a date after he chased me for three years,” says Maddy. “I always joke that the geek got his princess!”
Doting Robbie could not be prouder of his darling, who has made a name for herself on the international modelling circuit championing appearance diversity.
“I’m so proud of her – she’s done so much already in raising awareness for those with disabilities – making the point we can lead normal lives.”
“I think she loves me because I am protective and attentive, but not possessive – when we go to discos I’m so happy if she dances with the other boys because the last dance is always saved for me!”
Maddy will head to New York Fashion Week for the second time this year.
