It’s a story straight out of a movie.
A tiny dog who went missing in 2009 has been reunited with her owner more than five years later.
Rebecca Axiak was distraught when her little Maltese terrier Disco disappeared from her Cairnlea home, telling Seven News “I was lost without her, she was like my best friend.”
Rebecca never really gave up hope and spent years searching; she even kept a photograph of Disco on the fridge, and held on to the pup’s collar.
And then, a miracle.
Disco was brought in to the Lort Smith Animal Hospital in Melbourne, 23 kilometres from her home, after an attack by another dog.
After she was cleaned up, staff scanned Disco for a microchip, and reunited the lost dog with her owner.
“Her tail started wagging furiously, her eyes widened,” Rebecca said. “I knew straight away, she knew.
“It was a miracle, a real dream come true.”
And Disco, who Rebecca describes as “very energetic and loving and sweet” will have some company while she settles in back home; new pooches Pickles and Spoon joined the family last year.
