The show must go on. So when superstar Liza Minnelli’s plane got cancelled just before her gig on the weekend, she took an Uber.
The distance travelled worked out to a little over 320 kilometres.
The New York Post reports that Liza travelled overnight to make sure she got to the concert in time.
Liza had been headed to Wilmington, North Carolina, for a black-tie affair to play with the North Carolina Symphony at Cape Fear Community College’s new Humanities & Fine Arts Center.
But “her connecting flight from Charlotte suffered extreme turbulence on its way to Wilmington,” a source said.
“The pilot flew back to Charlotte.”
In one of those only in America moments, Liza’s driver turned out to be a former Egyptian Olympic handball player Ahmed El-Awady — who competed at the 1992 and ’96 games — who agreed to drive through the night to get the star to the event.
“He finally delivered Liza to her hotel at 6:30 am.”
Later that day, she played to a crowd of 1,500, who gave her a standing ovation.
