The Project co-host and media personality Lisa Wilkinson has taken to Instagram to confirm the worst: her beloved mum has passed away.
The mum-of-three not only shared the heartbreaking news on social media, but also uploaded a throwback picture of her mum, Beryl, with Lisa’s then-young children, Louis, Jake and Billi.
“Farewell to my sweet, beautiful mum, Beryl,” she captioned the heartwrenching post. “You were an angel, a fighter, and a devoted mum and grandma right to the end. Be at gentle peace now.”
It’s been momentous 12 months for the veteran journalist, with Lisa, 58, having left her 10-year tenure at Channel 9 last October over gender pay-gap inequalities.
Chatting to NewsCorp last November, the 57-year-old spoke on behalf of women, saying they’re “fed up” with the fact their salaries do not mirror their male counterparts.
“You can see women have had enough — the gender pay gap, domestic violence, homelessness is on a huge rise in this country particularly for women over 50.”
“There are already enough hurdles out there that we have to jump and forces against us that make the fact we are mere female more challenging.”
And while she’s settled into her new working home at the Ten Network, this latest news is a shocking blow for the esteemed TV presenter.
Our thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time, Lisa.
