A video of a lion attacking a toddler live on TV has gone viral around the world.
The video captures the heart-stopping moment the young lion, which was sitting by its handlers during an animal segment, lunges for the young girl and holds her legs in its teeth whilst the girl screams.
The incident happened more than 10 years ago on a Mexican show, Con Sello de Mujer, but has recently been picked up and circulated again.
In the video the lion is sitting calmly, yet seems to be incensed when the young girl begins to whine, at which point the lion lunges and bites her leg. The handlers are seen urging the mother, who is trying to tug the little girl back, to be calm while attempting to pry the animal’s jaw open.
After a few moments the trainer finally opens the lion’s jaw, freeing the baby’s leg and leading it off stage. The other trainer can be seen giving both the little girl and her mother a hug after the terrifying attack.
