A mother has been charged with child endangerment after her young children were found living in a crate in a cave.
The kids, aged four and six, were discovered by Kansas City detectives living in a 2.4m by 3m shipping crate in an underground cave.
The crate was furnished with old car seats, two thin blankets, rubbish and car parts. Police found the children investigating a possible stolen car racket.
The children weren’t wearing shoes and told officers they didn’t own any. They also said they did not attend school.
The children were taken to a nearby hospital where they underwent a health check and were given a bath and clean clothes.
Police charged Brittany Mugrauer, the children’s 24-year-old mother, with two counts of child endangerment.
