A sister has paid tribute to her brother, Reece Clarke, the former Gold Coast rugby league player and suspected murder victim. Her youngest brother Ethan Clarke, 22, has been charged with his murder and stand accused of dousing him in petrol and setting him alight.
Katina wrote on Facebook: “Be in peace Reece. You will be epically missed. I feel I didn’t say this enough but I love you, and I hope everyone takes a moment to appreciate their loved ones and to tell them so.”
26-year-old Reece was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital after the incident at the Gold Coast home but died later that day as a result of his injuries.
His former rugby league team, Runaway Bay Seagulls Rugby League Football Club also paid tribute to Reece:
“We are all in complete shock and sadness,” the club wrote on Facebook.
“I want to take this time, on behalf of the coaching staff and players, to keep the Clarke family and all those close to the family, to keep them in our thoughts and prayers.”
Reece’s brother Ethan has been charged with murder and will front the Southport Magistrates Court today.
Police allege he threw accelerant on his brother and set him alight. Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Procter said the burns to Reece Clarke were horrific:
“Obviously it’s a very traumatic day for [the family], and anyone who attended the address — it’s a horrific event.”
