When 22-year-old Harman Singh broke religious protocol by removing his turban to help an injured little boy in Auckland, the world applauded him.
Now, it seems, the world is giving back.
After the incident, which received world-wide recognition, a TV crew from TVNZ came to Mr Singh’s residence to interview him about his heroism.
But soon after the interview aired, viewers around the world noticed that the 22-year-old’s apartment was furnished sparsely, with just two plastic lawn chairs and an old table.
This led to the news station, TVNZ, to team up with a local furniture store, Big Save Furniture, to help furnish Mr Singh’s home.
The business student opened the door on his day off to see a brand new bed, lounge set and coffee table being off-loaded from a truck.
“Thank you, thanks a lot, I’m very happy,” Ms Singh said, with tears in his eyes, “It’s the biggest surprise of my life.”
Singh was brought international attention after a photo of him removing his turban (which is against the rules of his religion) to help a young boy that had been hit by a car, went viral.
“I wasn’t thinking about the turban,” said Singh of the incident, “I was thinking about the accident and I just thought, ‘He needs something on his head because he’s bleeding.’ That’s my job – to help.”
