The politician was searched most on Google by Australians in the past year, out of the top 10 women on The Weekly’s first ever Power List.
Her popularity skyrocketed online in July as she dealt with Ukrainian officials on the global stage over the MH17 air disaster.
Bishop has continued to maintain national interest in her diplomatic proceedings over Australia’s involvement, alongside the United States, in the fight against ISIL and the decision to send military troops to Iraq.
Although Gina Rinehart and Tanya Plibersek took the seventh and fifth rankings on The Weekly’s Power List, the mining billionaire came in as the second most searched out of the top 10 most powerful women, while Plibersek followed in third place.
The Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff, Peta Credlin – ranked as the second most powerful woman in The Weekly’s inaugural list – came in as the fourth most searched.
Her profile in Fairfax’s Good Weekend spiked online popularity in April, and again in June when Clive Palmer accused the Prime Minister of designing his $5.5 billion paid parental leave scheme to benefit Credlin, who has spoken publicly about her difficulties conceiving through IVF.
Westpac CEO, Gail Kelly – ranked as the fourth most powerful woman – slipped to fifth most searched on Google, while Business Council of Australia CEO, Jennifer Westacott slipped from sixth place in the Power List to ninth place when it comes down to online influence.
The Weekly’s October covergirl, Deborah-lee Furness was found to be the seventh most popular woman online, but she ranked number 10 in the Power List.
