The 18-year-old jogger who went missing on Wednesday in Victoria’s One Tree Hill area has been found alive and “well”, with police confirming they are questioning a man who is suspected to be connected to her disappearance.
Emma Langworthy, 18, was last heard from when she texted her friend whilst jogging outside of Bendigo, but failed to make contact again for several hours, prompting a day-long search.
Today, police have confirmed that they have located Emma in the nearby suburb of Maiden Gully.
A “suspect” male was then arrested and is being questioned.
Police believe that Emma was assaulted by this man.
“We believe at this stage she’s been assaulted and we’re investigating that,” Detective Senior Sergeant Rod Stewart told the ABC, “A male is assisting us with our inquiries … detectives are at the scene.”
“We’re just finding out from [her] what’s happened,” he continued.
The police unit explained that they identified a “suspect” vehicle in Maiden Gully, and found Emma within.
“[The officers] checked that vehicle and located [her].”
The man, who is believed to be in this 30s, remains in custody and is currently being questioned.
The 10km distance between Emma’s disappearance site (One Tree Hill) and where she was found (Maiden Gully) have prompted the belief that Emma may have been abducted.
