Following the shock result of the recent federal election, there’s been a lot of talk about who will take over from Bill Shorten as leader of the Labor party.
While Anthony Albanese is tipped to be the top man for the job, there’s another notable candidate in the next Labor leadership ballot who just admitted he’s considering putting his name forward – Shadow Minister for Finance, Jim Chalmers.
“I don’t think it’s unreasonable that a few of us take some time to work out what we want to do — remember we were hoping to be forming a cabinet this week,” Chalmers told Q&A on Monday night.
“I want to play a substantial role in rebuilding our electoral fortunes, a rebuilding of our policies up to the next election,” he said.

The 41-year-old frontbencher from Queensland is not only the Labor Member for Rankin, but also quite the family man.
It was a real Canberra love story for Jim who met his wife Laura when she was Julia Gillard’s press secretary and he was Wayne Swan’s chief adviser. The two tied the knot in March 2013 and it appears she has been Jim’s rock for many years.
“To properly thank my wife, Laura, for her sacrifices and support so that I can stand here, I would need an extension of time,” he said in his maiden speech in parliament.
“There is so much I cherish in her and value about our relationship, and without her I would not be here.”
Jim and Laura are also proud parents to Leo, three, Annabel, two and Jack, the youngest of whom was born on Christmas Eve 2018.
If you follow Jim on Instagram, his feed is packed with unbelievably cute pictures of his little family and we can’t get enough of it.
