Indie Armstrong tragically died on Sunday when a runaway car driven by an 86-year-old driver ploughed into her at a pedestrian crossing. And now the six-year-old’s friends have penned heartbreaking tributes to their classmate at the scene of the accident.
“I love you Indie. I will never forget you,” wrote one of Indie’s friends in marker alongside colourful pictures of love hearts, butterflies and rainbows.
“I love you so so so so so so so so much,” wrote another.
The six and seven-year-olds left their messages for their friend, who just one week ago, was sitting in class with them.
The young girl’s death has sent shock waves through the community, as they come to terms with the tragedy.
The principal of Indie’s school, Principal Kelly Edgar, said Indie was a “cherished” and “enthusiastic, loving, friendly young girl.”
Principal Edgar said the school community was grappling with the death of their student and friend, reports the Courier Mail.
Indie was waiting to cross the road with her grandmother and sister Lily, 8, when they were struck by a silver Subaru outside Nambour Shopping Centre on the Sunshine Coast.
Indies’ mother watched as the incident happened. Lily was taken to hospital with non-life threatening leg injuries.
Indie was taken to hospital with critical injuries where she later died.
The girl’s father, Jason Armstrong, took to Facebook to pay tribute to his daughter, posting a gorgeous photo of Indie with the caption, “My moon and back.”
Police said no charges had been laid against the elderly driver.
