“I am sorry. It’s all my fault. Totally mine.”

An inquest into the suspected murder-suicide of a family on a farm near Lockhart, NSW has heard that farmer Geoff Hunt wrote those words, before allegedly shooting dead his wife and three children.

News Ltd reports that the suicide note was discovered inside the house.

The body of Geoff Hunt’s wife, Kim Hunt, was found on a pathway leading to the house, while each of their children – Fletcher, 10, Mia, 8 and Phoebe, 6 – were found dead in their beds, having suffered shotgun wounds.

Mr Hunt was found the next day in a dam with a single shotgun wound to the head.

Mr Hunt had a canola and wheat farm with his brother Allen. The family did not appear to have overwhelming financial problems.

Kim had some health problems after suffering a car accident but was recovering.

Kim Hunt’s sister Jenny Geppert released a statement yesterday thanking the community for supporting the family through a “traumatic year”.

“The love and care from our friends and extended family will also be forever remembered,” she said.

“This week will be difficult for our families, another arduous formality to endure.

“We hope that this tragedy may remind all of what really matters in this world and to act with humility and empathy towards others at all times. Thank you in advance.”
