A man who ended up in bed with a nine-year-old girl in the wrong room claims the hotel is to blame and is suing for damages.
Daniel Hughes is suing the Ritz-Carlton in Clayton, Missouri after a key mix-up led to criminal charges being laid, news.com reports.
Hughes was staying in the hotel, when after being out drinking one night he mistakenly thought he was in a different room. He went to reception explaining his key did not work, so they gave him a key for the room without checking his identity against that room number.
Hughes let himself into the room and climbed into bed with a nine-year-old girl by accident, however the girl’s parents pressed charges.
In 2014 Hughes was found not guilty on four criminal charges related to that incident, but during the process he lost his $561,000 per year job because of it. Hughes is now accusing the hotel of enabling the incident to take place.
