Six people have been hospitalised and another 28 left seriously ill after they were exposed to salmonella at a High Tea at Melbourne’s five-star Langham Hotel.
The unfortunate people were among more than 60 diners who attended high teas at the luxury hotel on the weekend of July 11 and 12.
Victoria’s health department is now awaiting lab results which will determine how the salmonella outbreak occurred.
The hotel has provided frozen food samples for testing and thoroughly cleaned its kitchen and food preparation and storage areas.
“The hotel is fully co-operating to determine the origin of this illness and is in contact with guests directly,” Langham managing director Ben Sington said in a statement.
The department of health says there is no reason to avoid dining at the hotel.
Salmonella cases in Victoria have increased 130 per cent in the past six years. It is not know what is behind the increase.
